School Based Nursery Consultation

Crawshawbooth Primary School is seeking to open a 15-20 place Nursery provision for 3-4-year olds and this consultation sets out the proposal to implement this plan. In order to establish a Nursery, it is necessary for the school to change the age range for which school can cater for, from 4-11 years old to 3-11 years old

This is an exciting opportunity that would enable the school to provide Early Education places to children aged 3 and 4 years old prior to their entry to school.

The purpose of this consultation is to provide information about our proposal and seek the views of Crawshawbooth families and the wider community.

The proposed Nursery provision will be based in the Secret Garden utilising the outdoor classroom and the outdoor space surrounding the classroom. Access to the site will be either via the school or can be kept separate by accessing the site from Goodshaw Lane. There is ample space for approx. 15 children including the large secure outdoor area. The current facilities lend themselves to support the requirements of a Nursery with refurbishment. If required the Nursery children will also be able access to the school’s resources and facilities including the playing spaces, the hall, Forest School and the EYFS area.

To ensure we continue to recognise the value and importance of outdoor learning experiences children in all year groups from the main school will still be able to access the Secret Garden.

Crawshawbooth Primary School is a 1.5 form entry primary school located on Burnley Road, Crawshawbooth. In its last Ofsted inspection in 2023, Crawshawbooth retained its ‘Good’ Ofsted grading. ‘Crawshawbooth Primary School is a welcoming and friendly school. The values of respect, resilience and curiosity thread through all aspects of school life. Leaders set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour. Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), rise to these expectations and behave well.’

The Governing Body and the Senior Leadership Team believe that the addition of a nursery class will benefit the children and families within our local community through the provision of high-quality affordable childcare and quality education for children from 3 years to 11 years, enabling families to use their Government Funded Early Education childcare entitlement at one setting without top-up fees.

Crawshawbooth Primary School wishes to contribute to and support the Government’s scheme to support more parents and family members who work and those that are entitled to up to 15 funded hours per week through eligible benefits. In addition, the benefits to the school, the children and the local community include:

  • A more comprehensive transition from Nursery to EYFS to support a smoother start to school life for our EYFS children who currently join us from several different nurseries.
  • Early identification of vulnerable families so that early help and support can be implemented more quickly.
  • Early identification of SEND needs which can subsequently be addressed earlier and appropriate support put in place.
  • A continuity of provision which reflects our vision and ethos.
  • To better ensure a full cohort of 45 children in our EYFS year, supporting the school financially, which in turn benefits the whole school community.
  • Respond to expressions of interest in a Nursery from current and prospective families.
  • Provide continuity of provision from 3 to 11 years for our families.
  • Optimise the use of our facilities and capitalise on our expert knowledge of the early years’ foundation stage provision.
  • Provide employment opportunities and continuing professional development for current staff.

Road Safety Letter 6th December 2024

Dear Parent/Carers

Class 6,7 & 8 Roald Dahl day

We are delighted to inform you that on Monday 28th October 2024, we will be celebrating Roald Dahl Day at Crawshawbooth. This day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the world-renowned author and further promote a love of reading.

Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite Roald Dahl character, for a wonderfully fun and creative way to celebrate the life of this fantastically talented children’s author. We’d love your child to join in, and we have lots of marvellous educational activities planned for them!

If you are unable to purchase a costume, why don’t you get creative with your child and make a costume? You can use an old T-shirt or cardigan to match a character’s outfit. Be creative!

We look to a fun first day back after half term.

Regards

Mrs Hartland, Miss Peat & Miss Hardwicke
