Summer Term 2
Our theme this half term is A Long Time Ago!
This term, we are using a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts to learn about the past. We will begin by reading the story Dogger by Shirley Hughes and from this we will complete a variety of comprehension and writing activities around the text, including sentence writing and opinion pieces. During this topic, children will know some similarities and differences between things in the past and now, drawing on their experience and what has been read in class. This topic will give pupils opportunities to find out about our history. They will learn about what it was like to go to school in the past and how everyday objects, such as clothes, toys and vehicles have changed.
In phonics, we will continue to learn Phase 4 CCVCC words and common exception words, and use our new phonic knowledge to blend and segment words for reading and writing. In maths, we will learn about time, patterns, positional language and addition and subtraction beyond 10. We will introduce the concept of money and begin to add amounts together using coins.
Our theme in PE is castles. We will continue to develop our gross motor and fundamental movement skills during our indoor and outdoor PE sessions. We will also practise our letter formation, using the red rose ditties and weekly handwriting sessions as support. We will also develop our listening and attention skills, speaking skills, and social skills through our play and circle times. For expressive arts and design, we will be creating fairy tale artwork inspired by Scott Gustafson.
A busy but exciting last term!
