    Summer Term 1

Our theme for this half-term is Roots, Shoots and Muddy Boots!

We will be using a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts to learn about life-cycles, new life and plants. This topic will give pupils opportunities to find out about growth, decay and changes to plants. They will learn how to keep plants healthy and in what conditions they grow best. By the end of the term, the children will be able to label parts of a plant and flower after planting and caring for their own.

In literacy, we will be reading the story Jack and the Beanstalk by Ed Bryan, and completing a variety of comprehension and writing activities around the text, including story sequencing and sentence writing. In phonics, we will continue to learn phase 3 phonemes and common exception words, and use our new phonic knowledge to blend and segment words for reading and writing. In maths, we will learn about distance, length and weight. We will introduce fractions and begin to halve amounts to 10.

Our theme in PE is minibeasts. We will continue to develop our gross motor and fundamental movement skills during our indoor and outdoor PE sessions. We will also practise our letter formation, using the red rose ditties and weekly handwriting sessions as support. We will also develop our listening and attention skills, speaking skills, and social skills through our play and circle times. For expressive arts and design, we will be creating collage pictures inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s ‘Sunflower’ painting.

We also have a stay and play session and our very exciting trip to the farm.

    Thanks,

    Miss Horrigan :)
