Summer Term 1

Hello and welcome to the Class 5 page. Most of the information you require about Class 5 can likely be found here. However, feel free to get in touch with me (Mr Bell) via the office or catch me at the door if you have any other questions.

To kick off the final term in Class 5, we will be circling back round to fractions in maths. This will also include work on position and direction before moving onto 2-D and 3-D shapes and eventually time. As ever, particularly with time, the more help the children can get at home, the more secure they will be in their understanding. I will attach some great websites below to aid with any home practice.

In English we are going to start the term by exploring our school value of curiosity using the book 'I wonder' by Annaka Harris as our key text. This will then move onto adapting and writing stories based on the text 'Tad' which sits nicely alongside our science unit of animals including humans. Finally, before the half-term break we will be revisiting explanation texts and will work towards creating an explanation poster for the frog lifecycle.

In History we will be exploring the life of Learie Constantine and discussing his significance in terms of justice and equality. This will then lead into our final Geography topic of oceans as we enter the final half term. In science we will be continuing our learning of animals including humans however this will now centre around habitats.

This half-term we also have the added excitement of Forest School. This will take place every Wednesday morning and I must ask that children are sent into school already their outdoor clothing on that day. School uniform can be brought in a separate bag ready for the children to change into before lunch.

PE and Outdoor Provision

Our PE day will be Friday this half-term.

Please ensure children are dressed suitably in keeping with the uniform policy.

Appropriate PE clothing really does help ensure the success and safety of our sessions.

PE Kit:

White T-Shirt, black or navy joggers, trainers, school sweatshirt or hoodie.

Outdoor provision, which has been taking place each Friday, will not be continued throughout January and February. It is important that we let the ground recover and regenerate before it is used again later in Spring.
