Autumn Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! We’re looking forward to a fun-filled and engaging half term, with lots of exciting learning opportunities planned across the curriculum.

Here’s a look at what your child will be exploring this half term:

📚 English
We'll be exploring the story of Farmer Duck. The children will enjoy retelling the story, acting it out, and will write a character description plus a recount from the perspective of the duck! The children will continue to have daily phonics lessons and daily guided reading sessions.

➕ Maths
This half term, we will cover many different mathematical concepts. We will begin by learning about addition and subtraction, followed by sequencing and sorting, fractions, capacity and volume, money, and time.

🌱 Science
We’ll be learning about Animals other than Humans, looking at different types of animals, identifying and naming them, describing and comparing, and grouping according to different characteristics.

🗺️ History
We'll explore the history of Farming in Crawshawbooth - looking at the similarities and differences between farming in the past and farming today.

🏃‍♂️ PE (Physical Education)
This half term, we'll be focusing on fundamental movement skills and playing ball games to build our coordination and teamwork.

🕉️ RE (Religious Education)
Our topic is Christianity, exploring why Jesus is special to Christians, and learning about the story of the Nativity.

🧠 PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education)
Our theme this half term is Valuing Difference, encouraging the children to reflect on people who are similar to them and people who are different, thinking about their special people, and reflecting on the importance of kindness.

🎶 Music
In Music, we’ll be practising singing the songs in our Nativity performance and will be thinking about what is important when we are performing for an audience.

💻 Computing
We'll be learning how to group data and create data sets, developing important organisational and problem-solving skills.

Timetable

PE

Our PE day is Monday.

Please arrive at school in your PE kit:

Plain, dark tracksuit bottoms/leggings;
Plain white t-shirt;
Blue school jumper/cardigan/hoodie (no other hoodies);
Trainers;
No earrings.

Outdoor Provision

Our Outdoor Provision afternoon is on Thursday.

These afternoons ensure a smooth transition from EYFS to Year 1. They provide the children with opportunities to learn through play and work with an adult on our foundation subjects in smaller groups.

On these days, children need to arrive at school with suitable clothing and shoes for the outdoors. They should wear their normal school uniform but should also bring the following:
