Summer Term 2

Our theme for our final term is At The Seaside! 🐠🌊🌅

This term, we are using a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts to learn about the Seaside. We will begin by reading the story Lucy and Tom at the Seaside by Shirley Hughes. From this, we will complete a variety of comprehension and writing activities around each text, including sentence writing and an opinion piece.

During this topic, children will know some similarities and differences between things in the past and now, drawing on their experience and what has been read in class. This topic will give pupils opportunities to find out about our history. They will learn about what it was like to go to the seaside in the past and how everyday objects, such as clothes, toys and vehicles have changed.

In phonics, we will continue to learn Phase 4 CCVC/CVCC words and tricky words, and use our new phonic knowledge to blend and segment words for reading and writing. In maths, we will learn about capacity, time, patterns, positional language and addition and subtraction beyond 10. We will introduce the concept of money and begin to add amounts together using coins.

Our theme in PE is castles. We will continue to develop our gross motor and fundamental movement skills during our indoor and outdoor PE sessions. We will also practise our letter formation, using the red rose ditties and weekly handwriting sessions as support. We will also develop our listening and attention skills, speaking skills, and social skills through our play and circle times.

In music, KIDSROCK will carry out weekly workshops where our children will explore different musical instruments, and learn to perform a song together.

For expressive arts and design, we will be creating seaside art inspired by the artist, Henri Matisse. We will be using paint and collage with bold shape and colour.
