Happy New Year! We hope you had a great Christmas.  Unfortunately, most of you can't return to school this half term, and although we'll miss you lots, we know you'll work hard and try your best to ensure that you keep learning!

See 'Class Dojo' website/app for daily home learning.  If you have not received a link via phone or email, PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL.

Victorian Homework Celebration Gallery - well done to all those who produced some amazing work, as well as hopefully having a great time and learning too! :-)

CHRISTMAS PARTY DAY

The Upper Juniors will be having their Christmas Party on Wed 16th December 2020.  They may wear their own clothes on this day, ensuring they have sensible footwear for playing games and no jewellery.  The party will take part in class bubbles.

YOUNG WRITERS' PECULIAR PETS COMPETITION!

First of all, we would like to say a big thank you and well done to those children that have entered this competition. We are delighted to announce that Jessica T-Y5 (class 9), Isabella M-Y6 (class 10) and Sophie M-Y5 (class 10) will have their poem published in 'Peculiar Pets - Poetic Voices' - we are super proud of you!

For the children who did enter but unfortunately have not been published (yet!), you can resubmit your work by editing it and sending to resubs@youngwriters.co.uk. The closing date for this is 20th November. We will give the children feedback on how to improve their poem.

Parents/carers of those that have been selected for publication will receive a letter via school, containing a username and password to use so you can give permission for the poem to be published and order yourselves a copy of 'Peculiar Pets - Poetic Voices'. Permission must be given by 20th November for the poem to be published.

A huge well done to the Upper Juniors yes

TTRS ROCK OUT 2020 Competition- 9th-14th Nov 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

As part of our commitment to make maths exciting and high profile in our school, this November we are taking part in a competition for Maths Week England. It’s called Rock Out 2020 and it’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, your child will earn their class a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours). Winning classes in the school and in the country as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

All game modes (Gig, Garage, Studio, etc.) will count but only from games played between 7.30am and 7.30pm on Monday 9th, Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th, Thursday 12th, Friday 13th and Saturday 14th.

In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans. We suggest a limit of half an hour a day outside school hours – some will play more, some will play less.

Thanks for your support,

The School

PS See powerpoint below for more information!

YOUNG WRITERS - PECULIAR PETS POETRY COMPETITION

All the children in the Upper Juniors have the chance to enter this exciting competition. There is a PowerPoint (including a video) below, which will give the children some inspiration to create an amazing  animal to write their poem about. Also on the PowerPoint, there  are lots of examples of styles of poems so the children will be well-equipped to make their poem as effective as possible. Prizes include an Award of Excellence, a selection of books, framed certificates and goody bags!

Children will be given a username and password, which they can use to log into the Writing Portal on Young Writers. The link to the Writing Portal is on the sheet of paper with their username and password. Once they are there, they can just type their poem in and submit. The closing date for entries is Friday 23rd October.

Good luck! We are extremely excited to see your fabulous entries!

Autumn 2020

Welcome back to school! We hope that you have a great time back at school and in the Upper Juniors!!  We have lots of fun and learning planned for this year and although these are changing times, we hope that your child will have a happy and enjoyable year.

**Times tables**

It is essential your child knows all of their times table and division facts to 12x12 as soon as possible, to ensure that they can complete work on more complex maths including percentages, fractions, ratio and proportion.  Whether they know them or not,  your child needs to access Times Table Rock Stars weekly to learn them OR keep their skills sharp.

We will display Leader Boards, Battle Winners and Best Score Certificates in the Upper Junior Department to celebrate children's successes!

Click the link below to go directly to the school log-in page!

**UKS2 Theme Tasks**

The final piece of homework  (optional) is to complete tasks on the topic of 'The Victorians'.  For more information, see the document below.

This term we are studying the Victorians. See the knowledge organiser below for essential facts you need to know!
