Thursday 8th May for Years 1-6 Non-Uniform Celebration Day
We are writing to inform you about our upcoming VE day celebrations, which promise to be both educational and enjoyable for our children. As you may know, this day is a significant day in British and world history and we are excited for our school community to commemorate it together.
We will prepare for our celebrations in advance on Tuesday, 29th April, the children will participate in a whole school Zoom call with artist Darrell Wakelam. Darrell, a 3D artist, teacher, and trainer, specialises in creating artwork with children and young people. He will guide us in creating a masterpiece to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, with contributions from all the children. On Tuesday 29th April, we kindly request that children bring in donations of thin cardboard, such as cereal boxes, kitchen roll tubes, and wrapping paper tubes (please no toilet rolls). Any unused cardboard will be responsibly recycled. This collaborative project promises to be a memorable and enriching experience for everyone involved. Thank you for your support!
On Thursday 8th May, we invite all children to come to school dressed in 1940’s fashion or red, white and blue to reflect the spirit of the occasion. Please note that football tops are not permitted, and we kindly ask for appropriate clothing and shoes to be worn as children will be taking part in a whole host of activities throughout the day.
We will start the day with a whole school assembly to unveil our unique piece of artwork. The children will then participate in various activities designed to teach them about the history of World War II, with a special focus on local history and thought-provoking poetry. These activities aim to educate the children about VE Day celebrations and the end of the Second World War.
In the afternoon, we are thrilled to host a celebratory afternoon tea for the children, where all classes will enjoy cake, crisps, and a drink. No donations are required.

Gas works outside of school
We have been advised by Cadent, that the current works being undertaken along Burnley Road, will be outside the school for 2 weeks, starting on Monday 24th March. There will be 5-way traffic control to co-ordinate the flow of traffic, along with the movement of the pedestrian crossing to slightly further up the road. Mrs Dobson will still be out as the crossing patrol, and will have access to a temporary traffic-controlled crossing, to allow the children to arrive at, and leave, the site safely.
The work is part of a national program to update and upgrade old metallic gas pipes and is necessary to ensure the security and safety of the gas supply in the area. The school supply of gas will not be affected.
We know that this will cause significant disruption to the school access, and create traffic delays on Burnley Road, so please plan your route accordingly, and allow extra time for your journey.
This will take us up to the Easter holidays, so we look forward to better access when we return to school later in April.
