Parents/carers of children in Infants,

First of all, may I say how proud we are of the children in the Infant Department. After such a long lockdown, they have settled back into school with enthusiasm and maturity for children so young. We know that many of our children have missed lots of time in school, and we wanted to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to bring them back up to speed.

We have noticed that one area that the children have struggled with in particular is their maths. Therefore, we wanted to offer support in this area, should your child or child’s class need to isolate by offering our support to you.

Firstly, the policies for maths are on our website. If you need to work from home, these policies are the first place to look. They are on our website, following the pathway:

Key Information – Policies - Maths Progression Through Calculations For Addition.doc

There are documents for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Each document is split into the specific year groups, so you will simply need to look at Year 1 or Year 2. We hope these documents will provide guidance in the first instance.

However, if you would like further advice on any of our teaching methods within Years 1 and 2 to enable you to support your child, please contact the school office. They will take any queries you have and a member of the teaching team will get back to you.

During this challenging time, although communication is more difficult, we want parents to know that the Infant Department are working hard to keep you informed, keep your children safe and to provide the high quality education they deserve.

Regards,

The Infant Department.

Knowledge Organiser

This term our theme is The Great Fire of London. Below is our knowledge organiser which shows the knowledge the children will learn in Autumn Term.

Year 1 Homework 11.12.20

HOMEWORK

The main focus for homework this year will be:

**Reading**

Please return reading books on Thursday - they will be quarantined until Monday, when new reading books will be sent out.  Your child will not get to choose the book due to the current situation but a variety will be chosen including fiction and non-fiction.  Please read with your child a few times per week and sign their reading record, adding a comment if possible. An infant reading book should be changed every week. If your child brings home a coloured sheet with words on with their reading record, these words are common exception words to read before reading the book.

**Poem**

Class 4 - Your child is being sent home with some lines from the poem 'Twas the night before Christmas'. Please could they learn these lines ready for a mini performance next week which will be filmed and put on the website for you to enjoy. This will replace the Nativity performance this year which unfortunately could not take place due to the pandemic. We hope you enjoy it.

Class 3 - Children will be practising their lines from the poem in class next week and so have not been sent home with their lines.

**Spelling**

No spellings this week.

**Maths: number bonds**

Practise number bonds to 10. You could use:

**Times tables**

It is essential your child knows all of their times table and division facts (2, 5, 10, 3x) as soon as possible. Whether they know them or not,  your child needs to access Times Table Rock Stars weekly to learn them OR keep their skills sharp.

Phonics

When you are reading at home, you may notice that your child is using what they have learnt in Phonics sessions to sound out words. If you would like to support them with this, we have attached a link to a useful channel on Youtube which shows you how to sound out words:
