Free School Meals

Free School Meals & Pupil Premium Funding

All children in Reception (EYFS), Year 1, and Year 2 are entitled to universal free school meals through a national scheme. However, if your child is eligible for free school meals due to other circumstances, it’s very important to register them — even if they already receive a free lunch.

Why? Because for every child registered for free school meals, the school receives additional funding known as Pupil Premium. This funding helps us to enhance the quality of education and provide valuable resources and opportunities for all pupils.

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is extra funding provided to schools for pupils who:

  • Are currently registered for free school meals
  • Have been registered for free school meals at any point in the past 6 years
  • Are, or have been, in care
  • Have a parent serving in the armed forces

How much does the school receive?

At Crawshawbooth Primary School, we receive £1,515 per eligible pupil for the 2025/2026 financial year. This funding makes a significant difference to the support and enrichment we can offer.

Could your child be eligible?

Your child may be eligible for free school meals if you receive any of the following:

  • Universal Credit with a household income of less than £7,400 a year (after tax and excluding benefits)
  • Income-Based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit (without Working Tax Credit) and a household income below £16,190
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
